An expert in dyslexia and all things Special Education my mission is to educate others on effective ways to teach students with dyslexia. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education along with my Administrative Credential, and certifications in dyslexia, and autism.
My dyslexia story.
My journey to dyslexia began with two extraordinary twin boys. Every day, they struggled with learning the alphabet, their address, and even the simplicity of their own phone number. Writing their names and tying their shoes became an uphill battle that seemed to stretch on endlessly. As they entered the third grade, it became painfully clear that their reading skills were far from where they should be.
In my pursuit of answers and support, I sought guidance from every corner. But no one seemed to possess the key to unlock the mystery of their remarkable struggles. Fueled by my determination to help y boys I made a decision that would forever alter the trajectory of our lives. I resolved to have my boys evaluated for dyslexia, despite my own lack of knowledge about this dyslexia. Little did I know how profoundly this choice would shape our future.
It was during this process, while assessing my boys, that the evaluator asked if they could evaluate me for dyslexia as well, as it often runs in families. At the age of 35, I was identified as an individual with dyslexia.
From that moment on, A passion ignited within me, fueling an unyielding determination to teach my boys how to read. To equip myself with the necessary tools, I enrolled in college to become a specialized teacher, dedicated to supporting students with dyslexia.
Armed with firsthand experience and a profound understanding, I am now on a mission to bring awareness to dyslexia. My desire is to educate teachers.
I realized that by helping educators understand the unique challenges faced by dyslexic students, we could join forces to close the national student reading achievement gap.
Every child deserves the opportunity to flourish academically, regardless of their unique learning differences. Join me in this noble endeavor and together, we can create a future where no child is left behind in the pursuit of literacy.
